Donald Jones

January 9, 1939 – October 5, 2025

Donald Jones, 86, of Mahomet, passed away on October 5, 2025. He was born on January 9, 1939, and was married to his wife, Mercedes, for 66 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Jones; daughter Terri (Phil) Campbell; son-in-law Brent Wesselmann; grandchildren Dustin (Maci) Campbell and Ashley (Sean) Wonderlich; and great-grandchildren Jayden and Jacquelynn Wonderlich, and Maren and Evie Campbell. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Wesselmann and granddaughter Tori Wesselmann.

Before beginning his long career in tile and carpet work, Don worked as a suit salesman at Jos. Kuhn & Co and as a mechanic at Arrowhead Lanes. He went on to become a skilled craftsman, spending many years with Tile Specialist before retiring.

He was an active member of the Mahomet Masonic Lodge #220, where he served in many positions over the years. Known for his strong work ethic and generous heart, Don often split wood to raise money for scholarships and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Don loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and golf, and was a proud member of the Champaign County Radio Control Club, where he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He loved to work, stay busy, and contribute to his community however he could.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Mahomet United Methodist Church, followed by a Masonic Service at 4:00 p.m.
